Sublimation Printing VS Screen Printing, Which One Do You Prefer to Start?

As we all know, sublimation printing is a kind of printing method of printing, but there are too many types of printing like offset printing, screen printing. Today we will mainly discuss the difference between sublimation printing and screen printing.

   Sublimation printing
Sublimation printing is the printing method with sublimation paper and sublimation ink. First, use a inkjet printer with sublimation ink to print the image to the transfer paper, then transfer the image to the fabric or something else you want with a heat press machine.

  Screen printing
For screen printing, it is a printing technique whereby a mesh is used to transfer ink onto a substrate, except in areas made impermeable to the ink by a blocking stencil. A blade or squeegee is moved across the screen to fill the open mesh apertures with ink, and a reverse stroke then causes the screen to touch the substrate momentarily along a line of contact. This causes the ink to wet the substrate and be pulled out of the mesh apertures as the screen springs back after the blade has passed.

  The applications
The sublimation printing is recommend to be used on at least 60% polyester fabrics to dye successfully, but with 100% polyester the result will be a lot superior. Other fabrics such as cotton, nylon and wool will NOT work for this type of printing. An alternative for this will be using a pigmented or standard ink to the heat transfer paper to print content with over 70% cotton.
applications of sublimation printing

The screen printing is usually recommended for higher volume orders of the same style design as for more you order, the cheaper they become. They also provide a high durability, design size flexibility and a wide range of workable fabric options.

  The limitations
A limitation of sublimation printing is the garment has to start off white.  It also means if you want a coloured T shirt with a high-definition print on the front, you would need to sublimate the sleeves and back also.

For screen printing, although you can print very detailed images using fine meshes, some designs will always be too intricate to reproduce using screens. You can also slightly feel the ink on your garment, which may be a drawback when printing large areas as shown below.
